RURALB
A journey through Rural Albania • Ongoing
The need to return to my roots regularly takes me to Albania to capture specific social challenges that the country is facing. The RURALB project, which I started in 2020 in the region of Theth and continued throughout Albania, focuses on the rural life of the country.
As the world becomes increasingly urbanized, I believe it is important to document the authenticity of remote areas and its’ inhabitants. This is particularly true for Albania, a country that has experienced significant social and economic upheaval in recent years.
As modernization and urbanization progresses rapidly, rural communities are faced with issues as the rapid growth of mass tourism, the exodus of the younger generation, social rejection, and poverty. My aim with this series is to raise awareness about these problems. At the same time, the project seeks to highlight and contribute to the preservation of Albanian culture and traditions.
